So a bit of a random one this week — the Android Clock app, or more specifically, its icon. Every morning I use the Clock app on my phone to wake me up from my second sleep/nap. Since I have always used the app at the exact same time, the appearance of the icon never phased me. That was until, needing to set a reminder for an appointment, I opened the app at midday. Something seemed off, different…

Send Anywhere
As a designer, WeTransfer has been a God-send during my career so far, allowing me to send and receive large artwork files via email link. One of its limitations though is that you must be able to access said emails from your computer or device. What if I’m using a different computer or can’t access emails via my phone? Send Anywhere overcomes this by providing a dedicated desktop and mobile app, offering integration and seamless sending between the two.
GuessUp
Following on the trend from last week of lockdown games, GuessUp, an app available on both iOS and Android, is great fun, if a little challenging to play via webcam. Similar to the more well-known version Heads Up!, my girlfriend and I unfortunately discovered it was a paid download on iOS so opted for this free alternative on both platforms. No lesser an experience, we were soon giving crazy descriptions in an effort to achieve a correct guess.
Instagram Update
So if you recall, just a few months ago I was singing the praises of Instagram’s features. As a new adopter of the platform earlier this year, it was impressive and seemed to offer a great way to present my creative output and get inspired by others. A new update has threatened that though, making tasks that were previously simple a little more complicated. Not good.
Alphaputt – Sennep Games
Set to launch shortly on the App Store, this clever new game combines the joys of crazy golf with the beauty of typography. Establishing 26 gorgeous levels to play through and with easy touch-based mechanics, the title will integrate multiplayer gameplay across the Internet for an even crazier time.
WeTransfer App
So a couple of months ago the WeTransfer app icon changed style on my phone. It then proceeded to disappear and reappear. Thinking nothing of it, it wasn’t until I came to open the app last week that I realised the app had been drastically changed, in my opinion, not for the better.
YouTube Music
So in a move to compete with the likes of Spotify, Google have recently released YouTube Music, a spin-off of the regular YouTube app. The question is, is it worth the time and space to download? The short answer: no, not really.
Bandsintown
A couple of weeks ago I went to the O2 Arena in London to see Imagine Dragons, one of the first gigs I’d been to in a while. I saw The Killers at BST Hyde Park last year. Both acts were brilliant and reignited an interest to see music performed live again. Tickets notoriously sell out fast nowadays so I downloaded the app ‘Bandsintown’ to alert me when new events appear. After just a week of using the app it has already proven fruitful with tickets secured to see Editors in October.
