Whereas the majority of countries decorate their trees at Christmas, in Russia and Turkey it is a New Year tradition. Russian firm ABD Architects have converted this celebration into an online construction game, where you can build your own custom tree as you welcome in 2019.
The game has a fantastic graphical style, taking on the appearance of architectural plans with gridded background and project information displayed neatly in the bottom right. Crisp yellow and white lines provide clarity against the dark green backing, structured in a linear fashion with varying patterns on the tree itself. Starting with the trunk, the block rotates continually back and forth from a crane hook, dropping when clicked at a fixed angle.
Progressing through the experience, building the tree up layer by layer, you can select the precise rotation of each segment. Do you go for a standard tree with each layer lined up perfectly or a more abstract design, with each piece positioned at a jaunty angle?
For my initial attempt I tried to line up each layer accurately. That didn’t work. Thus I restarted the experience and on this occasion set alternate segments to rotate in opposing directions. Achieving a more spiky and three-dimensional outcome, I am pleased with my tree, the ‘branches’ splaying out at different angles. This customisation provides an enjoyable experience with great replay value, targeting your inner creative to design a new variant each time to then be shared via social media.
A clever promotion for current and prospective clients, this construction game is entertaining for all. Besides, now you can tick ‘design a tree’ off of that list of resolutions. Bravo!
