GoogleDoodle – Chemisty CuPd

In celebration of Valentine’s Day this year, Google presented an awesome Doodle to the world that combined literal chemistry with the dating apps by which love is so often found in this modern age. Having met my wonderful girlfriend through dating app Hinge, as a couple we are testament to their success, and thus I was excited to see how Google would combine scientific and amorous chemistry into a cohesive experience.

Kicking things off with a Brandon favourite, you get to take a personality quiz! Whilst not a part of my own dating journey, many apps do use these as a foundation for matches so it was fun likening my own personality traits and desires to the elements, for example to which state I most align: solid, liquid or gas. After a brief five questions (some dating apps I trawled through nigh on 100!), your element was revealed. Displayed in typical dating profile form, a witty bio is presented alongside some associated interests to your element, Hydrogen in my case fond of balloon rides, star gazing and rockets.

With your profile set up, it’s time to get swiping! Right for a ‘yes’, and left for a ‘no’, as is second nature by now, you cycle through other element profiles, checking out their photos and bios until you find a match. Working scientifically now behind the scenes, CuPd verifies your elemental compatability, highlighting whether your match would be good or bad. Achieving a bond with a fellow Hydrogen, a final screen details the chemistry between you and resultant compound uses. Interestingly enough, when my girlfriend and I took the quiz independently, we both identified as Hydrogen — go figure!

As per usual, the quality and attention to detail given to each Doodle is impressive. Besides some beautiful illustrations for each element’s profile and witty remarks throughout, the soft graphical style and pastel tones perfectly reflect the lovey-dovey atmosphere surrounding both the themes of dating and of Valentine’s. Even though the big day has now passed, I’d still recommend discovering your own element and finding your match. Incidentally, for those trawling through the vast pool of dating apps, I’d recommend Hinge as a first port of call. At least, that’s how I found my love after years of searching, happy belated Valentine’s! ❤
